A Closer Look at the Future of Eye Care
Technology in optometry is always advancing and will continue to play a pivotal role in the eye care industry. And, as leaders in the industry, it’s important for Pearle Vision to be in the know when it comes to emerging technology. One emerging trend in optometry right now is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). So, let’s take a closer look at what that looks like in our industry.
According to the digital eye care publication Eyes On Eyecare, the goal for AI technology within the eye care industry is to optimize clinical decision making while significantly reducing the threat of ocular disease and preventable blindness. It could potentially allow optometrists to prevent, diagnose, and treat eye conditions faster and more accurately than ever.
By using image recognition in the screening process, AI is able to detect problems earlier, allowing conditions to be treated sooner or even prevented altogether. Early detection and treatment can optimize clinical decision making and improve the quality of patient care, while also helping reduce overall costs to the healthcare system. The implementation of AI could even lead to the prediction of diagnosis and management plans before the patient even sees the doctor.
It’s important to note, however, that we don’t see AI as a threat to replace eye care providers, but as another tool in the diagnostic clinical toolbox for eye care providers. It has the potential to improve quality and performance measurements, increase teamwork, decrease patient wait times, enhance patient outcomes, and lead to a better eye care experience overall.
Today, our EyeCare Centers offer the latest in eye care technology to provide the best experience possible for our patients. While we don’t currently implement AI technology, we do incorporate various digital elements from the exam room to the retail floor and provide cutting-edge lens products – so our patients know they can expect quality care at Pearle Vision.
The eye care industry is always evolving and, at Pearle Vision, we’ll continue to stay on top of the trends and analyze emerging technologies for their effectiveness before implementing them into our own practices – because we want to help make sure your future is as bright as possible.
