Pearle Vision multi-unit owners all launch their careers with the brand in different ways, but for many of them, the first step is signing an area development agreement.
An area development agreement grants franchisees exclusive territory rights in exchange for signing a contract to open a certain number of units in a particular market within a defined timeframe. Pearle Vision licensed owners with an area development agreement pay a reduced franchise fee and lower royalty fees.
Here are the stories of two licensed owners who are pursuing their goals to become Pearle Vision’s newest multi-unit franchisees.
Lee Walters says he has dreamed his entire life of opening a business that combines his commitment to public service with superior products and world-class customer service. He is confident that he has found the perfect opportunity as a Pearle Vision licensed owner.
Walters says this is the ideal time to build a network of stores to serve the explosive growth underway in the Colorado Springs, Colorado, area. He has signed a three-store area development agreement for that market, with plans to open his first Pearle Vision EyeCare Center this summer.
“There’s a great need for a professional eye care center that is customer-focused, has hours that are convenient for our customers and offers an unmatched selection of eyewear,” he says. “At Pearle Vision, the focus is on the customer – a requirement for any business I am going to be involved in.”
An Army veteran who served with the 4th Infantry at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Walters holds degrees in operations management and marketing from Auburn University. He worked for two Fortune 500 companies and then had a 24-year career in government service before returning to Colorado Springs, where he lives with his family.
Amit and Komal Kumar are licensed owners who opened a Pearle Vision EyeCare Center in Irvine, California, about two years ago. Komal Kumar is a licensed optician who oversees operations and patient care. Amit Kumar, who has a business background, handles the business and financial side of their EyeCare Center.
The Pearle Vision model was a perfect fit for the husband-and-wife team, and they began looking for ways to grow their thriving business. With an investor partner, they recently signed an area development agreement to open five additional locations over the next four years in the Irvine area.
“Because Pearle Vision offers medical care and a retail operation under one roof, it really played to our strengths as individuals, and multi-unit ownership addresses our goals for our family,” says Komal. “An area development agreement seemed like a natural next step for us. We are happy that this agreement will allow us to provide quality eye care and eyewear to even more of our neighbors very soon.”
